We are setting our self a goal, Mr Whippy Ice Cream – Zero Emission Fleet Aim. As technology slowly becomes readily available our aim over time is to make sure we are protecting and doing as much as we can as a company to limit our impact on the planet. With our current fleet now we have a great starting point. Our vehicles are on Mercedes Benz Sprinter chassis which are rated by the EU as the very best for fuel efficiency, low emission pollution currently available on the market.

Our Euro 6 Rated vehicles meet the most current rules and regulation set to reduce pollution over the year to come. In Europe, the European Union’s action to curb pollution from vehicles has taken the form of the Euro emissions standards and the latest in the line that began in 1993 with Euro 1 is Euro 6. If car manufacturers want to sell a car in Europe today, it has to meet the Euro 6 emissions standards on the official tests.

What is Euro 6?

Euro 6 is the sixth incarnation of the European Union directive to reduce harmful pollutants from vehicle exhausts. The Euro 6 standard was introduced in September 2015, and all mass-produced cars sold from this date need to meet these emissions requirements. The aim of Euro 6 is to reduce levels of harmful car and van exhaust emissions, both in petrol and diesel cars.

Mr Whippy Ice Cream – Zero Emission Fleet Aim

As major companies such as Tesla start to produce in the mass batteries that are more reliable and more and more advanced. It is only a matter of time before we start to see all-electric vehicles being produced. At the minute though with it being relatively new technology the battery’s have to be huge to even offer a reasonable range. Big battery’s mean more weight so it is counterproductive at the minute for a bigger vehicle such as Ice Cream Vans to be able to be offered as an all-electric solution.

Here & Now

On all our vehicles now though we do have EMDs ( Electric Motor Drives) fitted. This allows us to drive to any location whether it is a regular pitch we have all year round or an event we are travelling to power everything via electric. The EMD offers a great alternative to using renewably sourced energy such as a wind farm etc to power everything on the vehicle.

Of course not all the time we can guarantee where the power source is coming from and sometimes we have to plug into industrial generators. This EMD option is a step in the right direction for the time being until we can get a fully electric-powered vehicle.

We are always aiming to be the leaders in our industry when it comes down to how we operate, with which vehicles we use. To make sure our Mr Whippy is tasty just as good and better than everyone remembers it. For us as a company hopefully, our aim of having a zero-emission fleet within the next few years will be a thing we can aim for and be proud to offer.
